LAURA BURLACU

Laura moved to the United States with her family in 1999, and quickly became a multi-sport athlete at Newcomers High School in Queens, NY. Among her most successful achievements in high school: PSAL soccer player of the Year 2000-2002 and winner of the PSAL Heisman Wingate Award awarded to the most outstanding NYC Senior Athlete. As a high school senior in 2002, Laura decided to go to St. Johnʼs University on both academic and athletic scholarship. Despite multiple knee injuries over the course of the four years at St. John's, Laura managed to produce exceptional performances in the highly competitive Big East Conference. She considers the highlight of her career to be scoring the game-winning goal in the Red Storm's upset win over then-No. 19 Villanova, on 10/3/04. Laura graduated in 2006 with both athletic and academic honors. She has also been a member of the NYC Empire State soccer team (2003-2008) which just recently won a gold medal at the Binghamton games in July 2008.
